About the Broadway Series

Broadway is a complete course designed to help learners communicate effectively and accurately in English and to take them to a threshold of proficiency where they can confidently look forward to dealing with the pressing areas of communication at the secondary and senior secondary levels.

The course components of the Broadway series are as follows:

  • The Coursebooks Primer A & B, and 1 to 8, contain themes that reflect the Core Elements of the National Policy of Education
  • The Workbooks 1 to 8 act as a curricular complement to the Coursebook, a language practice book and an examination aid
  • The Literature Readers 1 to 8 sharpen the learners’ interpretative skills & provide them with a valuable literary experience
  • The complimentary Teacher’s Books 1 to 8 contain notes on pedagogical aspects of the course; an exhaustive key to the tasks in the three corresponding books, audio cassettes and innovative teaching aids

Coursebooks

CoursebooksThe central pillars of this multi-skill course are the Coursebooks, which encompass a breath of content and language tasks all geared towards the development of communicative proficiency in English.

The Coursebooks focus on:

  1. Reading for fact, meaning and personal reflection
  2. Vocabulary tasks for exploring multiple meanings of words and understanding context - specific meaning
  3. Grammar tasks that emphasize both conventions of grammatical accuracy and the interplay of corrections and appropriateness
  4. Study strategies with stress on the use of the dictionary
  5. Writing tasks that lead to purposeful and functional writing as well as personalized and imaginative expression
  6. Speaking activities that emphasize not only the key elements of accuracy like pronunciation but also the ability to fluently discuss and debate issues
  7. Listening for detail and overall meaning in communicative contexts with the support of excellent illustrations and an appealing layout, the Broadway Coursebooks aim to create a truly vibrant language classroom.

Workbooks

The Workbooks are vital resource for users of Broadway. They function as curricular components to the Coursebooks, as language practice books, and as examination aids. The Broadway Workbooks are intended to demonstrate the value of meaningful support materials in the language classroom

Each Workbook focuses on:

  1. Reading short, engaging texts for fact, implication and personal reflection
  2. Word attack skills as a means of enhancing efficiency in vocabulary use
  3. Grammar tasks to reinforce and elaborate the grammatical items introduced in the Coursebooks
  4. Guided writing tasks aimed at the production of both functional and imaginative texts
  5. Two oral tests, two unit tests and an examination paper to provide sample of revision and models of formal assessment.

Literature Readers

The literature readers are an essential literary supplement to the Broadway package. They are intended to chisel learner’s critical thinking and to provide them a valuable literary experience.

The highlights of the Literature Readers are:

  1. Representative texts form different genres like the short story, poetry, drama and autobiography.
  2. Reading texts chosen for their classical interest, current relevance geographical spread, sense of pluralism and sheer impact
  3. Pre-reading notes designed to illuminate possible ways of responding to the texts
  4. Comprehension tasks intended to provide learners an introduction to literary appreciation and critical response
  5. Activities focused on figurative or literary uses of language and on divergent, personalized at the secondary level.
  6. The Broadway Literature Readers provide a lead-in to a more serious study of literature at the secondary level.

Teacher's Books

The teacher's kit, for each level, contains audio cassettes, visual aids and teacher's books. The teacher's books include crisp notes on the pedagogical aspects of the course; an exhaustive key to the tasks in the Coursebook, the Workbook and the Literature Reader; and innovative teaching aids.
